“A survey taken just before the invasion of Iraq showed that over 70% of evangelical Christians ardently backed the impending war.” (quote from Eric Margolis article)
I will never understand how, so called, evangelicals think murdering Muslims is, well, “evangelical”. It’s a sad epitaph of evangelical Christianity when it’s members have obviously forgotten
that, they are supposed to be Ambassadors for Christ, spreading the message of reconciliation and not at the end of a gun barrel. I just don’t get it!
Paul, the Apostle of the gentiles, commends us to, as much as possible, live peaceably with all men and yet so many who claim to be Christians whole heartily support their corrupt government’s mission to kill and destroy these people who have neither attacked nor invaded us. And “they” think they are doing God’s work or something or at least that’s what they’ve convinced many of their constituents on the Right that they’re doing. Shame on them and shame on those who call themselves Christian, that’s all I can say. Well maybe it’s not all…
Bush nor any other President is God and the US is not Old Testament Israel. Americans can repeat ad-nausea the words “God bless America and God bless our soldiers” but I assure you, we are NOT on God’s side and he is certainly not blessing America nor has he ever for that matter. That’s just bad theology. These wars have nothing to do with self defense either and only gullible people would believe such a thing. If you have believed that then just stop it.
If you want to stop the spread of Islam then share God’s love by sharing the Gospel of Christ with a lost and dying world. Show Muslims your faith rather than your disdain for them and their religion which, is no less reprehensible than any religion that leads people to hell or any so called christian preacher that preaches a false gospel. So, if you think your doing God’s bidding by supporting Israel by sending your sons and daughters to die to kill Muslims then I am sorry for you because you are not doing what God’s word has commended all believers to do.
2Co 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; 19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. 21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Article Excerpt below by Eric Margolis:
“Bush ruined America’s name across the globe, making us look no better, maybe even worse, than the Soviet Union. Today’s witch hunt in the US against Muslims began during the Bush years. The Bush administration made many Americans feel that Uncle Sam was their enemy, not their friend. Of course, to many of American hard right and neocons – Bush was a saint. He remains so today in the Bible Belt and West. South Carolina, with its evangelicals and retired military communities, venerates Bush. A survey taken just before the invasion of Iraq showed that over 70% of evangelical Christians ardently backed the impending war.”

Note – The vast majority of Christian denominations and conservatives as well, have historically not supported US wars. So maybe you ought to ask yourself, why the change? Check it out. I’m sure you’ll find that I’m correct.
