My title above, according to Jason Brennan, in his book, Liberatarianism: “What everyone Needs To Know” is what “libertarians” believe. Okay, it’s what some libertarians believe but I don’t happen to be one of them and yet I do believe that I am a libertarian.
I do realize that Jason is speaking in somewhat general terms and I agree with much of what he purports about libertarian philosophy but on this and similar issues I would say such a generalization should not be made as I believe there are more than a few libertarians that would not agree.
Jason says, in his book, libertarians believe that the use of and participation in pornography, by consenting adults, should not be against the law or regulated, except in the case of children because children cannot consent, therefore, I would ague, the same should apply to adoption. He says that homosexuals should have all rights under the law that anyone else has and I would agree but I take exception that this issue is an “under the law” issue. He says that based on the opinions (he says research) of psychologists and psychiatrists that, children growing up with two moms or two dads as opposed to a heterosexual couple are no worse off. I don’t agree with him or the psychos and I believe that there’s a clear consensus that children are far better off in a stable two parent home where the parents are of the opposite sex but nonetheless let’s say that the psychos are right, then with that in mind we must ask the question, are homosexual homes stable and particularly, are male homosexual homes stable?
Research from the ’80’s indicates that 28% of gay men had up to 1000 partners, however, more recent studies indicate that promiscuity among gay men has slowed down dramatically since the onset of HIV and AIDS, but gay men are still having 7-45 times more partners than heterosexual men so, a priori, one could at least anecdotally conclude that placing children, who “aren’t able to consent” into a gay, male couple family, is quite risky. I think the psychos are referring to some idealistic world that doesn’t exist.
I wonder if Jason thinks that anyone who wants to should be able to adopt. I mean, would it be okay for polyamory people to adopt? Or how about people who have open marriages and have sex with multiple partners or any other of the numerous types of immoral lifestyles that people may choose to live? Why shouldn’t anyone who lives any sort of deviant lifestyle one can imagine be allowed to adopt “under the law”? Clearly, if Jason thinks gay couples are okay then where would he draw the line or does he?
Let me suggest that in a libertarian society, the state would have nothing to do with the adoption of children as that would be handled the same way marriages would be handled, by private organizations such as churches and other charitable organizations. So, what gay people are allowed “under the law” would be irrelevant since the children would be the responsibility of the private orphanages or other such organizations and they would set the parameters for who could and could not adopt the children that they are responsible for. I suppose that they could determine that a gay couple may be acceptable but I rather doubt it.
Jason shows his clear bias when he purports that homosexuals are just people who are “wired differently”. Really? Then I guess all the other 60 or 70 purported gender identities are all just people who, contrary to any scientific, biological evidence, are just wired differently.
There is not nor has there ever been nor will there ever be any type of a scientific medical test whereby one can determine the sexuality of a child as being anything other than male or female. There is no test that can show that a child is homosexual or any other made-up gender. It’s completely unscientific and defies rationality and logic but I’m sure that won’t stop them from making every possible attempt to force everyone to accept any such behavior they can dream of because it is clear that they are not satisfied with being left alone to practice their abnormal life styles, which I’m more than happy to do, but they want everyone to approve of their choices as well and they have all the media, Hollywood, sociologists, left academia and some libertarians helping them to, as far as I’m concerned, destroy our culture but hey, culture is so overrated.
