Yes indeed, another FB meme being shared, that exclaims– had US soldiers not been there in WWII in 1944 there’d be no Christmas in 2018! It just never ends, does it? The mindless oft-repeated mantras of Statism seem to never end.
How does the US sending our soldiers to fight in WWII in anyway have anything to do with people now being able to have Christmas in 2018? If anything, it probably lessened our chances. Both World wars were unnecessary and completely avoidable. The US was in no way at risk before she entered the war. These wars are what the founders implored us to avoid. George Washington, in his farewell address explicitly stated that Europe was always at war and that we should stay out of entangling alliances with them.
It could be said, in fact, that because of the deal Roosevelt and Churchill made with Stalin, it greatly increased the chances that we would not have been able to “have a Christmas in 2018”. The US government and Great Britain allied with Stalin who made Hitler look like a Sunday Choir Boy but hey, they liked him and Roosevelt, especially, had an affinity for Marxism which, in the upper socio-political echelons and the intelligentsia, had been in vogue since the ’30s. The socialist proclivities of Roosevelt were very evident since, in his dictatorial style, he’d literally turned our Constitutional Republican form of government on its head, from which it has never recovered.
Furthermore, Hitler’s “National” Socialism i.e Nazism, was not expansionist as history shows that Hitler’s primary goal was the reunification of German peoples who had been separated after WWI with the onerous mandates of the Treaty of Versailles. However, Stalin’s version of Communistic Marxism was very expansionist. So in reality, Hitler was much less a threat to our security and way of life than Stalin was by a long shot and it is a fact worth noting that all through the ’30s, ’40s and into the ’50s the US government was filled with Card Carrying Communists, some of which were actually spies working for the Kremlin. Hardly anyone talks about it but Joe McCarthy’s and J Edgar Hoover’s much-maligned investigations of communist infiltration at the highest levels during the ’40s and ’50s, have been vindicated by the facts of history.
Unfortunately, many, to this day, still believe Churchill’s propaganda that Hitler was going after the US as well, which was blatantly false. In fact, Hitler had reunited many of the German lands and people with Great Britain’s blessing or at least a wink and a nod, as it were and he had done so without firing a shot. It is also a fact that Hitler greatly admired the British and sought an alliance with them.
Another factoid to note is that the slaughter of the Jews did not really begin until the point that Hitler thought he was probably going to lose the war. I’m not defending Hitler, he was an awful excuse for a human being and he was a eugenicist, as were many in the afore mentioned upper echelon of Americans, including FDR and his first Lady. But Hitler’s main goal was to make life miserable for the Jews, so they would leave and to reunify the German people. Again, I’m not condoning ANYTHING he did but there was no need for a world war. Hitler’s “nationalism” most likely, would have been confined the German territory and millions of Jews and millions of others would not have had to die just because Hitler believed in a, so called “pure race” and his Socialistic Nationalism.
There’s a lot more that could be said on the subject but if you want to learn more I highly recommend Patrick J. Buchanan’s book: Churchill, Hitler, and “The Unnecessary War”: How Britain Lost Its Empire and the West Lost the World.
