“They’re Over there defending all we hold dear over here”
These are the sorts of mantras we hear during NFL broadcast games on Million Dollars ads placed by the US government with taxpayer dollars and I’ve got to say it really makes my head hurt!
While many Americans get their panties in a knot over the players kneeling during the National Anthem, they seemingly experience complete cognitive dissidence when it comes to the unfathomable contradiction of the Military ads emanating from their big screen TV’s.
Doesn’t anyone wonder just how is it that sending our men and women to the other side of the world to murder people who have never attacked us and are of no threat to any US citizen, whose feet are on American soil, is “defending the Constitution” or “defending all we hold dear”… blah, blah, blah? What does that even mean?
Let me state the obvious: The biggest threat to the Constitution and all we hold dear is our own tyrannical government who, while pronouncing patriotic sounding mantras over the airwaves, is trouncing on the Constitution with blatantly unconstitutional, illegal wars and using the, so called “war on terror” to greatly diminish both our natural and constitutional rights which, is the antithesis of what they are supposed to be doing according to the selfsame constitution.
But of course, even if we are against these wars and the US interventionist foreign policy it doesn’t matter once we’re engaged because we must keep our patriotic chins up and “support our soldiers” and thank them for their service, whatever that means… Yeah, that’s another one that makes my head hurt — I’d really like to know exactly how you define “Service” in the context of these illegal wars. (guess the oath to protect and defend the Constitution means something other than “protect and defend the constitution”)
I guess so long as these contradictory platitudes continue to engender warm fuzzy nationalistic feelings in the hearts of Americans they’re doing their job because it’s business as usual for the National Security State and the Military Industrial Complex. Got to keep dropping more bombs so we can build some more. After all, how else are we going to keep unemployment down? Death and destruction is the government’s JOBS plan!
