I know a lot of people have the idea that “their guy” (or gal) is going to help fix what’s wrong with (or at least make it better) America but maybe we ought to look at this idea a little more critically. Let’s start with an analogy: If you stick a pair of metal scissors into a wall plug you will get a nice shock. If you get a different pair of metal scissors and put them into a wall socket you will still get — a nice shock. You see, the problem is the nature of electricity so just because you put a different person into the White House doesn’t mean you’re going to get a different result. The problem is the nature of Government itself or more precisely – “The State”.
Statism, which most people seem to think of being as necessary to life as the air we breath, is not only NOT necessary but is in fact, the cause of all that ails us? The ideal of the “the State” has been pushed into our psyches almost from birth. From the moment we start school to the books we read and the movies we watch, the idea that there must be a “ruling class” because without them there would be chaos, becomes such a part of our normal thinking that any idea that it could be otherwise must be rejected as ludicrous.
But what are we missing here? Getting back to my analogy above, when you take away the electricity the scissors have no ability to conduct power and shock the crap out of you! Politicians and Corporatists, via the power of the State, are continually shocking the crap out of the citizenry but they’ve been doing it for so long, so often that people have become numb to it. It almost seems as though they’re addicted to the thrill of it and think that if they could get just the right person into office then that would make everything better. (of course, it never has)
The truth is the State is just a means for a class of people (also known as criminals) to rob and enslave the productive people in a territory of their wealth. Until people wake up and realize that this is what is really going on and that the Free-Market can accomplish everything the government allegedly does for them, in a much more efficient and equitable way and that people have the right to their persons and property to do with as they will so long as they don’t aggress against other people’s persons and property, we will continue to impoverish and enslave ourselves by supporting this, so called, democratic system.
If it’s immoral (and it is) for one person to use violence or the threat thereof, to get people to do what they want them to do and or to expropriate their property then it is likewise immoral for people to vote for others to do the same. Democracy is nothing more than gang rule and it has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. “The majority rules” while it sounds noble on the surface it is not. It’s really just another way for one group of people to force their will upon another group. Why not just let people live their own lives the way they want to so long as they don’t agress upon another’s person or property? What’s wrong with that? What’s wrong with liberty? Isn’t that what the American ideal was really about?
Maybe it’s time to rethink this whole idea of government “by and for the people”. It’s obvious that it has failed. Maybe it’s time to end statism and just let people and markets be free from government coercion and let’s see what happens. It surely could not turn out any worse than this experiment has.
An excellent talk, by Thomas E. Woods, a leading libertarian/austrian economics apologist, on the effects of the “Military State” on an economy.
Recorded at the Mises Institute in Auburn, Alabama, on 28 July 2016.
I was recently watching an HBO presentation called “The Latin Explosion: A New America” and one part of the program delved into the political realm pointing out how desperate politicians are to get the “Latino vote” and how that gives latinos power and influence. Entertainers like Pitbull and other latino performers have ads encouraging their fellow Latino Americans to vote because that’s “power”.
Unfortunately, they, just as many other americans of any other ethnicity, have been fooled into believing that their vote counts, not realizing that what it counts for is not what they think it counts for. They are but pawns voting for their overlords just like all the other citizens of the Realm and they are simply being used by the political elite as a resource; another spigot of revenue pouring into the government coffers to feed to insatiable hunger of an ever growing and all powerful Leviathan that wants complete control over all its subjects within the Realm. (and outside the Realm as well)
So I would like only to say this to my fellow latino Americans; voting for others to rule over you will likely not turn out to be “power” for you but it will be for your overlords. But as long as you keep voting for the establishment candidate, whether Democrat or Republican (or other) and wave your Star Spangled Banner wildly overhead; cheer for the soldiers and above all be a good citizen by paying your taxes you should be just fine…. for a while anyway.
On the other hand, should you ever cross your overlords by standing up for your right to not be groped just because you want to travel by airliner; or your right to do with your own body what you want – drinking what you want, smoking what you want or even drinking RAW MILK if you want; or your right to raise your children and educate them how you think best; or your right to do as you wish with your own property; or your right to marry without getting permission from the government; or your right to keep what your earn and not have it stolen by the government under threat of violence; or your right to pass on your property to your posterity without being taxed out of it; or your right to not be conscripted or have your children conscripted to fight immoral wars for the government and kill people who have not attacked you; or your right to keep and bear arms to protect yourself and your family; or your right to keep your property and not have it stolen by thugs using “imminent domain” laws; or the right to not have your privacy invaded without justification or warrant; or the right to….. I could go on and on of course but anyway, things might not go so well for you then.
Is the right to vote really a power or is it the relinquishment of power? Something to ponder I think.
