I know a lot of people have the idea that “their guy” (or gal) is going to help fix what’s wrong with (or at least make it better) America but maybe we ought to look at this idea a little more critically. Let’s start with an analogy: If you stick a pair of metal scissors into a wall plug you will get a nice shock. If you get a different pair of metal scissors and put them into a wall socket you will still get — a nice shock. You see, the problem is the nature of electricity so just because you put a different person into the White House doesn’t mean you’re going to get a different result. The problem is the nature of Government itself or more precisely – “The State”.
Statism, which most people seem to think of being as necessary to life as the air we breath, is not only NOT necessary but is in fact, the cause of all that ails us? The ideal of the “the State” has been pushed into our psyches almost from birth. From the moment we start school to the books we read and the movies we watch, the idea that there must be a “ruling class” because without them there would be chaos, becomes such a part of our normal thinking that any idea that it could be otherwise must be rejected as ludicrous.
But what are we missing here? Getting back to my analogy above, when you take away the electricity the scissors have no ability to conduct power and shock the crap out of you! Politicians and Corporatists, via the power of the State, are continually shocking the crap out of the citizenry but they’ve been doing it for so long, so often that people have become numb to it. It almost seems as though they’re addicted to the thrill of it and think that if they could get just the right person into office then that would make everything better. (of course, it never has)
The truth is the State is just a means for a class of people (also known as criminals) to rob and enslave the productive people in a territory of their wealth. Until people wake up and realize that this is what is really going on and that the Free-Market can accomplish everything the government allegedly does for them, in a much more efficient and equitable way and that people have the right to their persons and property to do with as they will so long as they don’t aggress against other people’s persons and property, we will continue to impoverish and enslave ourselves by supporting this, so called, democratic system.
If it’s immoral (and it is) for one person to use violence or the threat thereof, to get people to do what they want them to do and or to expropriate their property then it is likewise immoral for people to vote for others to do the same. Democracy is nothing more than gang rule and it has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. “The majority rules” while it sounds noble on the surface it is not. It’s really just another way for one group of people to force their will upon another group. Why not just let people live their own lives the way they want to so long as they don’t agress upon other’s person or property? What’s wrong with that? What’s wrong with liberty? Isn’t that what the American ideal was thought to be?
Maybe it’s time to rethink this whole idea of government “by and for the people”. It’s obvious that it has failed. Maybe it’s time to end Statism and just let people and markets be free from government coercion and let’s see what happens. It surely could not turn out any worse than this experiment has.
